Problem: How much water could people save if they turned off the water while brushing their teeth?
Hypothesis: I think that by turning off the water while brushing your teeth we could save a lot of water. This will help our environment by conserving our water resources. It will also help save money.
Conclusion: My Results show that my hypothesis was both wrong and right. It was wrong because it showed that people could only save half a gallon each day. I was right because if everyone turned it off that would save a lot of water.
By passing out stickers and tips on how to save water I can help educate people on how to save water and the environment.
Summary: My experiment measured how much water comes out of a faucet, how long people brush their teeth, and if they left the water running. I repeated my experiment on different faucets and different people.
My results show that people brush their teeth an average of 45.5 seconds, and leave the water running about 20% of the time. It also measured that an average of 1.5 gallons of water came out of the faucet. Using these measurements I calculated that each person could save about ½ gallon of water per day by turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
My hypothesis was that my experiment could save a lot of water. As individuals we don’t save a lot, but as a group we can save a lot. If everyone in Titusville turned off the water while brushing your teeth we could save over 7,000,000 gallons of water a year. That’s a lot of water!
