Problem: How does pollution vary between the year of the car and the model?

Hypothesis: The researcher believes that the older cars and models with larger engines will produce more pollution.

Results: The results of the first fifteen tests showed that every car model had an increase in the weight of the socks. The 2002 Camry LE, 1998 Voyager, 2003 Honda Element, and the newer cars polluted slightly less, which shows that there has been small changes in the way cars are manufactured. These changes are beneficial to the environment.

Conclusion: The highest polluting car was a 1997 Ford Expedition. The lowest polluting car was a 1994 Ford Van. Most all of the cars showed an indication of some pollution. There was not a significant difference in the cars except for the highest and lowest. The researcher concluded that all cars pollute to a small degree. Factors such as engines, maintenence, and types of gas would affect the amount of pollution.

*Professor Sunny note: 35 cars tested using socks placed over the exhaust. The socks were weighed both before and after the trial.
