15 Steps Total

Step 1: Trash Can

Materials: Plastic trash can, wooden board

Function: Trash can with board in it falls onto a lever.

Step 2: Lever

Materials: 4 wooden boards, one tire

Function: trash can falls onto lever, lever pushes tire.

Step 3: Wooden Dominoes

Materials: 3 Wooden boards, chair

Function: Long board falls, hits three small boards into each other

Step 4: Ramp

Materials: Two boards, tape roll, string, small block, wedge

Function: Tape rolls down boards, triggered by wedge, pulled by string attached to block

Step 5: Wooden Lever

Materials: One long board, one small board

Function: Small board, pushed by tape roll, hits long board.

Step 6: Tire

Materials: Tire, wood block

Function: Long board hits the tire off of the block, the tire rolls into the dominoes

Step 7: Wooden Dominoes

Materials: Two Blocks, tape roll

Function: Blocks fall into each other, knocking over tape roll

Step 8: Ramp

Materials: Bin lid, tape roll

Function: Tape rolls down bin lid

Step 9: Falling Block

Materials: Tape, string, block, tape roll

Function: The tape roll hits the block, pulling the string and activating the next step

Step 10: Ramp

Materials: 3D-printed device, marble, string, bin

Function: The string pulls the 3D-printed device’s lever, which releases the marble down the bin.

Step 11: Block Fall

Materials: Block, tape, string

Function: The marble rolls down the bin, hitting the block, pulling the string.

Step 12:

Materials: String, tape

Function: The string is pulled, unwinding the taped end from the other string attached to the ceiling.

Step 13: Weight Slide

Materials: Weight, string, tape

Function: After the tape is removed, the weight slides down the string.

Step 14: Ramps

Materials: Long cardboard tubes, marble, metal piece

Function: When the weight hits th metal piece (which hits the marble), the marble rolls down a set of ramps

Final Step: Make the Seesaw go back and forth 14 times.

Materials: Seesaw Halloween decoration

Function: The marble hits the decoration, activating it.

  • Well done in making a machine that takes almost a minute to turn on the see saw. Creative materials too. Could benefit from more explanation of the actual energy transfers, but overall a very nice job.

  • Well done. You were very creative with the found materials and did well making use of a large space. I liked how you used the string to transfer the energy up to trigger the zip-line. The marble run was well crafted. I would like to have heard what was the most difficult part of the process, how the work was divided up, and how you decided on what transfers to add next.
