Aidan D. Energy Transfer Machine

Aidan D. Energy Transfer Machine

Basic Info

I created the water alarm. It uses wind, potential, kinetic, and electrical energy (2 AA batteries) to sound an alarm. The transfer begins when an oscillating fan (Section 1) blows a paper plate, slightly lifting a track that a ball bearing is resting on (Section 2). The ball bearing rolls down the track, through a tube, and hits a book (Section 3). The book falls over, creating wind energy that topples another tube (Section 4), which falls into a cylinder with a toothpick and wire attached (Section 5). When the cylinder is knocked off its perch, the wire releases from the toothpick, falls into a cup of water connected to an alarm circuit (Section 6), and completes the circuit. Electricity from the battery sounds the alarm once the circuit is complete.

  • So creative using the fan to move the paper plate! I also love your use of SnapCirucits at the end. Great job!

  • Very creative use of common household items. It’s impressive that you were able to use wind energy more than once.

  • It’s cool how you used the fan and explained the use of potential to kinetic energy. I liked that you used at home materials and made it quick and to the point. Awesome

  • Nice job. How many times did it take to get this run? What step was the toughest to get right? Nice use of wind energy.

  • Aiden,
It looks like you had fun doing this and it is so creative! I’d love to know where you got the idea and how many times it took to get it perfect.
