We and our school have never competed on this topic before.

Our cooker is a box with shiny insulation and a cut up box tops with tin foil. All of this stuff came from Home Depot. We will have Plexiglas on top. To build the solar oven we first bought all of the stuff. This included:

  • 2 cardboard boxes
  • Pieces of tin foil

    18in x 18in piece of plexiglass

    insulation foam

INGREDIENTS

Blueberry Pancakes

1 ½ cups fresh Florida blueberries plus more for garnish

2 ½ cups pancake mix

2 ½ cups milk

2 cups ricotta cheese

2 tablespoons butter for cooking

Blueberry Pancakes
Whisk together the pancake mix, milk and ricotta cheese in a large mixing bowl until smooth. The pancake batter should be thick (you can adjust the consistency by adding more milk or pancake mix). Gently fold the blueberries into the batter. Preheat a large sauté pan or griddle over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter to the cooking surface. Add an even amount of pancake mix to the cooking surface, making sure not to overcrowd the cooking surface. Let the pancakes cook until bubbles start to form in the top of the batter. Flip pancakes and continue to cook until golden brown and cooked throughout. Repeat process until all the pancake batter is used. Keep cooked pancakes warm in a 250-degree oven until ready to serve.

  • Love that you made blueberry pancakes! The first year for the solar cooker project is when you learn the most. I can’t wait to see you all at the event!

  • great use of materials, a little more information on the performance of the cooker

  • Insulation in the cooker is a really great idea. Looks like you tried to funnel sunlight into the cooker but the foil on the top piece of the oven look like it is actually funneling sunlight away from the cooker. Some design improvements might really amp up your oven. Also testing the oven to see if it can actually cook would be great. Blueberry pancakes sound delicious.
