T.A.P.E – Teddy, Anna, Piper (and Pierce), Elle

Ocean Breeze Elementary School

Our team: Teddy D, Pierce H, Anna M, Piper H, and Elle R. We are all 5th graders.

Our energy transfer machine shifts energy to a series of household items. Each step of the machine transfers energy into the next part. The goal of our machine is to make a domino fall into a cup.

The TAPE team working on our chain reaction.

The energy machine starts with a marble hitting a set of dominoes. These dominoes then hit a car off the edge of the cart pulling a string. The sting released the green car to hit another set of dominoes. These dominoes then push a track making a marble roll down, hitting the motorcycle of the edge of the cart pulling another string. This string releases the bouncy ball letting it roll down the track into hole

The bouncy ball falls down the hole to the next level of the cart, then hits a set of dominoes. The falling dominoes hit the black ball, which then hits the blue domino case of the cart. The green car falls of the edge of the cart triggering the energy beads to pull out of the bin.

The energy beads pull down the paper completing the circuit causing the Popsicle stick to start spinning, hitting the marble down the track.

The marble rolls down the track through a cup then down another track finally hitting the last set of dominoes. This run of dominoes hits the last one into the cup. Completing the energy transfer machine.

  • Nice design using the different levels of the cart. It looks like you all had fun making it, hopefully it gave you a better understanding of how energy can transfer from one item to the next, and how finicky dominoes can be.
